Passing their test is one of the first steps towards driving independence but the learning doesn’t stop there. Inexperience can make young drivers more at risk on the roads so how can you keep supporting them to keep safe? One way is through a parent-teen driving agreement which is a document where you set out what behaviours are expected of them and any limitations around 
access to a vehicle. 
 

Setting guidelines and boundaries like not driving after 8pm at night or only carrying one peer-group passenger can be really effective in helping them build up their driving experience safely. An example parent-teen agreement, and other resources for parents and careers can be found here. 
 

We work hard to keep our communities' roads safe and will enforce the law where someone is showing signs of dangerous driving behaviour but we always prioritise prevention. We want to support you in keeping your young people safe and reduce the risk for everyone on the roads.
